We have recently gone on a hunt through Cape Town to find the best hamburgers in the city. It wasn’t an easy task but we have streamlined our list of favourites and we recommend trying them all – let us know which were your favourites.
When you ask local where they find the best burgers in Cape Town, Hudsons top many lists. They have a wide selection of burgers to choose from and even have a chickpea and lentil burger for the vegetarians amongst us. We recommend trying ‘The Boss’, a beef patty stuffed with mozzarella and cheddar and topped with BBQ beef rib meat and dill pickle. If you feel like a real treat, try the burger with one of their famous milkshakes. We love the House Made Fudge milkshake.
Where: Cnr. Main & Upper Portswood Road, Greenpoin
Gibsons is situated in the V&A Waterfront and boast an impressive burger selection divided into four menus – Gourmet Beef Burgers, Designer Burgers, Roll’s Royce Burgers and Chicken & Vegetarian Burgers. The Gourmet menu offers burgers such as the Shroom Burger (served with mushroom sauce) and the Cheese Connoisseur (your choice of cheddar or Gorgonzola cheese). The Roll’s Royce menu has a The Ultimate Mex-Tex burger that comes with a wopping 6 toppings including cheddar cheese, Jalapeño and guacamole, served with nachos, salsa and sour cream on the side.

Royale Eatery has been serving some of the city’s favourite burger and milkshake meals for over 10 years. Their website states they don’t just serve any burgers, they serve burgers ‘that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true.’ We tend to agree with their bold statement and cannot get enough of the Sweet Petunia (basted patty served with grilled mushrooms, fresh rocket and homemade mustard mayo). Their milkshakes have attracted crowds from all over the city and suburbs and we simply love the fact that you can mix flavours and create your own – Espresso and Smarties anyone?
Where: 273 Long Street, City Centre
Situated on Bree Street, Clarke’s serve serious meat focused burgers with no fuss and no unnecessary trimmings. The patty is topped with a slice of underberger cheese and you have a choice of adding bacon, there is no tomato, lettuce or onions to take your mind of the delicious burger. The burger is quite rich so we recommend you take a salad with the burger although the chips are really good as well.
